PHIL EPP
Drums * Vocals
Born in Toronto Ontario Canada, Phil Epp began playing drums at the
age of 6 years old after seeing Ringo Starr with The Beatles playing
on the Ed Sullivan TV show. His parents bought him his first drum kit
and Phil was hooked. But being so aggressive he eventually trashed his
kit and his Mother refused to buy him a new set but instead enrolled
him in piano lessons of which he hated. As years went by he
eventually started taking percussion lessons in school which led
Phil into playing with full Symphonies including the St. Catharines
Symphony. Being the backbone of symphonic music resurrected
the urge of thrashing out on drums like his idol John Bonham. So
Phil saved up enough money and bought a good kit and pursued his
dreams of being a Rock Star! Playing with bands in western Canada
like Budakon, Harlot, Frenzy, Nick Danger & back in Ontario with
Geneva, Rick Rose, Big Shot and others gave him valuable stage
experience and taught him the essence of working together to get a
band as tight as possible. Tired of touring the country playing covers
in the same clubs over & over Phil decided to start fresh and stay
home and gig around Niagara Falls with the hopes of finding
some guys who had the same vision as him by starting an all original
band. To pay bills he joined a local 3 piece cover band called Scurvy
Dogz with guitarist Gary Borden and Helix bass player Daryl Gray .
An extremely tight and polished group Phil had his sights on doing
originals and eventually putting out a cd, but with Daryl being committed
to Helix, the time needed to develop original music was never there.
Gary eventually left the group and opening for guitar was there. Daryl
suggested getting Brighton Rock guitarist Greg Fraser who was now
playing in Helix with Daryl. Greg accepted the offer and the trio
continued to play around the Niagara Falls area whenever Helix was
not on tour. Growing tired of being second fiddle to Helix and realizing
that Scurvy Dogz had no time to commit to original music Phil left the
group to follow his dream of being in a band that is committed to
original music. Greg Fraser eventually left Helix and Scurvy Dogz with
his sights set on putting an original group together with his Brighton
Rock bass player Stevie Skreebs . When Stevie asked who they should
get for drums, Greg immediately suggested Phil. They got together in
Stevie's basement had a few beers and jammed for hours with the motto
"No Covers Allowed!" After about 6 months of rehearsing, they
were armed & ready and entered the studio. FRAZE GANG was born.
It's been a long and winding road but Phil Epp has finally arrived!
